About Gert Swart
I am a sculptor from Pietermaritzburg in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
Perhaps the best way to learn more about me is from 'Interview with Gert Swart,' an overview of my life and work that appeared in the October 2023 edition of The Michelangelo Magazine and is reproduced here courtesy of Artway.eu.
You may also learn more about my approach to art-making, and gain some insight into the relationship between my art, my Christian faith, and the histories of South Africa which are intertwined into my own story, by reading 'In the Studio: Gert Swart & Walter Hayn," a conversation published in the public theology journal The Big Picture in August 2021.

The image below is of the Isandlwana Zulu Memorial, KwaZulu-Natal, 1999, which was a commission from the KwaZulu Monuments Council to commemorate the Zulu warriors who died in the Battle of Isandlwana, 1879). I'm honoured to have had the privilege of creating this work.
